With the highly anticipated Kickstarter launch just a day away my classmates and I are avidly polishing up our pages and photographing models. Unfortunately I am stuck patiently waiting for my final prototype to be finished. This is part of the reality of producing a product for the public to buy. I have been worried about the performance of my rack even after I thought it was ready to release. Turns out it is just too hard to make the "pinching" effect work consistently. It is even more ineffective when the snowboard is wet, a large part of the function of the product. So with one week till launch I have switched up the design yet again. This time I know that the rack will be ready.
On the downside the final prototype had a bit of a hiccup in production and will be a few days late on delivery. As my dad (Tom Gillen) had told me "This is all a part of being a product designer, these things happen". With 20 years of design experience I thought this was some good advice for someone like myself who is doing this for the first time. Now all I can do is wait for the final prototype to be done, the most exciting yet anxious time of the process.
